Moonstone, also referred to as rainbow moonstone, is milky white stone with a rainbow sheen of silvery or bluish iridescence. This play on light is caused by two types of feldspar within the stones structure and their different refractive properties. Popular in ancient Rome, they believed it was created out of moonlight and thought they could see the moon waxing and wanings within its depths. In India, it is still revered as a sacred stone thought to bring the wearer beautiful visions at night. The most precious moonstones are found in Sri Lanka, though they are mined in India, Australia, the United States, Madagascar, and Brazil.

Promoting a natural, strong hormonal balance in women, moonstones help to alleviate menstrual pain, promote fertility and ensure easy pregnancy and delivery. Moonstones have a beneficial effect on the lymphatic system, strengthen the immune system, and aid in problems with the thyroid. Also called a "lovers stone," it is believed moonstone can stimulate love and sensitivity.

Astrologically, moonstones are associated with Cancers and Pisces.
