Mookite, a type of Jasper, is composed primarily of the opaline silica skeletions of tiny organisms called radiolaria. The skeletons of these organisms once lay as sediment in the shallow waters of ancient seas. When the seas retreated, these sediments were cemented into solid rock, thus creating the gemstone mookite. Interestingly, imprints of ammonites, an extinct group of marine animals, can occasionally be seen embedded in a deposit of mookite.

Considered a powerful healing gemstone, it is used to promote the acceptance of chance and encourage the desire for new experiences. It promotes inner calm and good health by stimulating the immune system. Associated with the lower chakras, some healers use mookite with children to assist in the modifcation of a child's behavior.
